To kick off the school year, our Seniors and eBoard members visited Feeding South Florida to deepen their understanding of community challenges and give back. September marked Hunger Action Month, and Phase I of our program focused on Awareness.
During their visit, Leaguers inspected, sorted, and packaged over 10,000 pounds of food, providing more than 11,000 meals to families in South Florida. Food insecurity, especially in food deserts, remains a growing issue for both our youth and senior citizens—and it’s something we’re committed to bringing awareness to.
The first Kappa League meeting of the school year kicked off with a strong focus on action and learning. Building on their Awareness-In-Action experience, Seniors and eBoard members shared their newfound understanding of hunger disparities after their visit to Feeding South Florida. They discussed the critical issues they were previously unaware of, diving deep into the challenges many face within their own community.
In a bold and empowering shift, Leaguers stepped into the role of Instructors—taking charge of the discussions typically led by Advisors. They taught each other about mindfulness, cultural and social awareness, educational awareness, self-awareness, and emotional intelligence. These Leaguer-led sessions sparked meaningful conversations and set the stage for a year of growth, leadership, and mutual learning.
